Friend slits wrists?
I have a friend who tried slitting her wrist yesterday with a compass. I’m not sure if it’s for attention or what. She has nothing bad going on in her life at all, she has friends, I don’t see how she’s upset, but she is. But it could be for attention. The slit wasn’t deep at all. Just a scrape. What should I say to her?
I posted this twice by mistake. Thanks for your answers, but how is doing this with a compass 100% make it for attention?
Talk to your friend like you normally talk with her. Let it be up to her if she wants to share her situation with you.
Just remember you are a friend not a therapist. What’s going on with her has NOTHING to do with you! Try to avoid the temptation to “fix” her or feel responsible for fixing her. Keep yourself balanced, don’t get sucked into her “drama”, you don’t have the training, experience, or maturity (chronologically). Being her friend may involve, at this point, giving her space. If she chooses to talk with you, just listen, and keep what she may share with you to yourself (NO ADVICE!).
