do you need different filters for salt water and fresh water?
i have a fresh water filter for my gold fish, if i wanted salt water fish (eg clown fish) do i need to buy another filter? a salt water filter? is there salt water filters and fresh water filters?
thx everyone, i’ll make sure to do lots of research before i look into getting salt water fish.
You should read into what it takes to start a saltwater aquarium before thinking about anything at all. There isn’t any real difference between saltwater and freshwater filters, but quality. Most freshwater fish can handle a bit of ammonia or a bad filter but saltwater tanks are much more fragile and really do need a good filter to get them started. Starting a saltwater tank is not as easy as dumping in salt and adding fish. Also when you say do I need to buy another filter are you thinking about removing the filter for your goldfish? Please don’t do that. So no there is no difference between salt water and freshwater filters, both can do the job of the other though filters from a starter kit and some other ones won’t be able to do a good enough job for salt water tanks.
