Walking sticks, HYDR8R packs, good for Appalachian Trail?
I’m planning on hiking the AT this summer, are walking sticks a good investment? Has anyone used a HYDR8R water pack? I figured I could wear it under my pack.. or inside it…?
I spend a lot of time camping in the mountains.Walking sticks are a must ! You don’t really have to buy them though.I have a branch that I found in the woods that was perfect.You never know what lies ahead of you on a trail.There are too many kinds of snakes that are poisonous in the woods.Walking sticks are very handy for them.As far as water packs,I personally don’t think it matters as long as you carry enough water with you.When we go for our hikes,we have frozen water bottles and some not frozen for immediate drinking in our packs.I also suggest you carry some trail mix or energy bars with you too.More then likely you’ll get hungry on the trail.
Something worth thinking about….Look up the area your going to be at on the internet.Find out all the info possible on snakes(poisonous or not),wild cats(mountain lion,panthers),etc..You should know as much as possible about the area so you won’t be surprised on the trail by something.We go camping in the A.mountains every year,the area we go to wasn’t known to have big cats,but we saw one(panther) plain as day.I’m telling you this so you’ll understand,you have to be prepared for ANYTHING.Safety first and foremost.
Have fun !!! Always leave it the same as you found it or better yet,leave it better than you found it.(meaning don’t litter and if you see someone else’s mess,please pick it up and dispose of it where it belongs.Thank you)
