Wolf Eyes – Sniper P7 Tactical Torch

The Wolf-Eyes P7-Sniper is one of the first High Quality LED torchs produced that utilizes the SSC P7 diode.

*What’s so special about a P7 diode from Seoul Semiconductor (SSC) is that it is capable of producing an astonishing 900 lumens of light.

Now, before you start gushing all over and start talking big smack to all your friends about how you are going to be able to start fires from 3 ft away with your new flashlight, let’s look at the P7 in application.

Wolf Eyes put together a good torch here and some very solid solidstate technology is involved in the regulation of the LED but the P7 Sniper is still only rated at about 230 lumen.

Now, before you run off all broken hearted looking for a dark corner to curl up into a fetal postion and cry yourself to sleep with both thumbs in your mouth, let’s decide if 230 lumens isn’t all that bad.

A MagLite with a krypton bulb and fresh batteries will only throw a 90 lumen beam and from experience I can tell you, that cops MagLite was bright!

The P7 Sniper puts out 140 more lumens than the MagLite and that, my friend, is impressive.

With the P7 Snipers military specs design, well constructed aircraft aluminumn body and sleek tactical black anodized finish, this 6-Mode, 580-Lumen LED Flashlight / Tactical Torch is the ideal addition to any law enforcement officers utility belt or military soldiers arsenol.

The P7 Sniper is not just limited to professional applications (although it is very well suited for them).

This dependable and compact light is an excellent choice as a source of emergency light for power outages or just stomping around in the dark.

The P7 Diode (AKA: The Lamp)

The P7 Diode (lamp) is the latest in a series of unique light emitting diodes or LED’s that have been created by a company called Seoul Semiconductor (SSC) out of Seoul, Korea who are the country’s leading LED producer and one of the ten largest in the world.

These SSC diodes have come a long way since their inception in the late 90′s with a little fellow named Acriche, a 2W single emitter of octagon type that runs directly from AC power without converters.

In March of 2007, the company announced an improvement to the Acriche 2W single emitter, giving it a luminous efficacy of 48 lm/W, which is 20% brighter than the version the company began mass producing in
November of 2006.

The level of brightness achieved with the improved diode is comparable to conventional LED’s which report 57 lm/W but experience a 20% loss in conversion.

Seoul Semiconductor plans to increase Acriche’s luminous efficacy to 80 lm/W in the fourth quarter of 2007, and to 120 lm/W in 2008.

They did indeed but they didn’t stop there.

Dave Dillard is the creator of The P7 Flashlight Shop.

The Shop (which is really just a blog) was born out of frustration when I was trying to figure out which LED flashlight I should buy.

The internet is so clogged with ads and forums delivering mis-information about these awesome little torches that I decided to add my two cents.
