If you happen to have misplaced your old garage opener remote, or are interested in adding a new one to your arsenal, you will need to know the ins and outs of programming the device to work with the opener. After all, a remote without the proper instructions to relay is pretty useless. In this article, we will outline the steps to programming your brand new remote.
Step 1 – Locate the area where the antenna protrudes from the opening motor and take a look around until you find the learn button. In some cases, you may be required to remove a small lens cap. Other units will have a wall mounted receiver which holds the antenna.
Step 2 – Regardless of your unit, it will have a learn function. This usually takes shape in the form of a button. Push this button. A small indicator light should illuminate and glow, signally that you have roughly 30 seconds to re-program your remote.
Step 3 – Find the learn button on the remote and hold it down until the light on the motor blinks. Once the blinking has commenced, stop holding the learn button.
Step 4 – If you happen to have a switch opener, simply remove the cover from the motor unit, or receiver. You should see a section of 8, 9, or 12 switches, each with three positions.
Step 5 – Locate the battery cover on the remote and find the switches. Next, match up each switch on the motor to the switches on the remote. Each switch should be in the exact same position as the corresponding switch on the opposite device. You may require a small pen or screwdriver to maneuver the switch placement to the spots needed.
Step 6 – Next, close the battery cover and return all parts and pieces to their proper places. Test you garage door. As long as all the switches have been matched correctly, it will work as it should.
