Please recommend a hiking boot?
Can you please recommend a good hiking boot for me..
I’m looking for a class B boot – Cross hiker/mid-weight boot.
I’m male roughly 70kg.. The socks i’ll be using are “Smartwool Performance Mens Hiking Medium Crew” or “Bridgedale Men’s Comfort Trekker Sock”
I have roughly £80 to spend.
Forget brand names. A boot has to fit so whichever is best for you go for it.
On somebody else that beautiful Scarpa might be OK but it doesn’t have to be best for you because it’s best for somebody else.
However, some brands are better for quality than others and if you find a good quality boot that is a good fit for you while you are wearing the socks you would normally wear with them, then a bit of extra cash could be well spent
If the Eurohikes fit best go for Eurohike. I go mountain running in a pair of those in bad weather because it’s better than wearing trainers on wet rock and grass.
It isn’t a top quality brand but they’ve done me well and lasted years for a bit over £30.
I wanted a pair of boots for running and they had the right fit and low cut I wanted for enough ankle protection and support while allowing enough flexibility for running, so that’s what I got.
I tried several over a couple of weeks as I visited various towns and looked around for the right boot while I was there before finally deciding on the ones I bought.
Good choice. I can run in them. Been good for years now.
Good brand names for quality are Scarpa and Meindl, used by mountaineers for generations and probably have more Everest ascents to their name than all other boots put together, and the British firm Brasher which was greeted with joy when the walking and climbing magazines sent their staff out to test them as they appeared on the market and wrote glowing reports of a British boot that could take on the Austrians and Italians.
Karrimor also do some good boots. I use a pair for everyday walks to save wear on the Brasher Hillmasters.
For £80 you could get any of those brands , but they are more like £100-£120 for the decent ranges unless like me you buy things at special offer times, although you’ll find some at your price of all three of the top brands mentioned if you look around.
My Hillmasters were £60 reduced from£96 and the Karrimor were only £38 reduced from £70, both from Millets on special offer.
Both have been excellent for me at much reduced prices so I did well buying those.
I tried them first though. Cheap is no good if it doesn’t fit well.
Other boots have been cheap that I didn’t buy.
