Camping Water Filter Reviews – Which Is Right? The Katadyn Hiker Model Or Base Camp Model?

When you are venturing out into the great outdoors with your family, a camping water filter might be the ticket to saving you a lot of pain. Having clean water to cook, drink and wash with is important when you are away from your home. There is a wide variety of camping water purifiers for you to choose from. If you are going for just a short excursion you might want to invest in a Katadyn hiker model. These models only hold about a liter or so of water but they are lightweight and extremely portable so you can take it on the go with you. If you are more interested in having a longer stay in the wilderness you might want to think of something along the lines of a Katadyn Base Camp filtration bag for your water. These hold more water than the Katadyn Hiker and Hiker Pro versions, some up to ten gallons of water at one time.
You also want to consider how much effort you want to put into getting your water. If you are looking at the more compact and smaller versions of backpacking water purifiers then you will find that you have to pump and pump in order to get the water filtered. This can be a hassle if you want more than just a liter or two at a time. Many of these types of filters can process1 liter a minute but remember you are going to be doing all of the work.
The larger base camp water purification systems are great in the fact that they take little work from you. Many of these types of filters hold a lot of water and let gravity do all the work filtering. These are good if you plan on staying out in the wilderness for several days or have more than a person or two to provide water for. Less work, more water and all you have to do is fill it up and put it on a higher surface.
Camping water filters take the guess work out of whether you and your family are safe drinking the local lake water. You can get all the clean water you need without the expense and hassle of buying several gallons of water.
