How To Bring The Garden Into Your Daughter’s Bedroom
If you have a teenage daughter, most of the time they feel like they have outgrown everything from showing affection towards you in public, to hanging out with you and the rest of the family, and playing with her childhood toys. There is one thing that both of you can agree that she has outgrown with – the design of her bedroom.
Many teenagers are left with the design and style of their bedrooms from when they were much younger, with stuffed toys and dolls displayed about the room. Now may be the right time to update and change a teenage girl’s bedroom, just like she is transforming? Mothers and daughters can bond during the decorating process.
There are several ways to update the style of a teenage girl’s room. One sure way to know which one is to ask for her opinion. However, one great suggestion that she may appreciate is bringing a garden theme into her bedroom. Fresh and young while still feminine is the best way to describe the garden theme.
Flowers are a good way to bring in a garden or country cottage theme in a bedroom. However, it is important not to overdue the amount of flowers or floral pattern in the bedroom otherwise it will result to an overbearing or more mature design. You must also consider personal preference.
There are certain variety of flowers that are pertains more to a garden or cottage theme than others. Hibiscus will remind you more of a tropical feel rather than a cottage on. Common flower varieties you can use are roses, carnation, orchids, and hydrangeas to name a few. Varieties that are subtle in color but have a fuller look are great for this type of design.
When you say garden or cottage theme when referring to color, you immediately think of subtle hues like pale blue, pale pink and mint green. The garden themed bedroom does well with light, pale colors. Since a garden style or cottage theme uses a lot of patterns, bright bold colors will only make the patterns look chaotic and busy. With a pale, light color background, these patterns appear more subtle and feminine.
If you do not have the patience for painting an entire room or using different painting techniques to bring out texture on your wall then you can always use wallpaper. There are many wallpaper patterns that you can utilize on your garden theme bedroom. Floral and striped patterned wallpapers are the most common.
When it comes to linen, whether for the chair, curtain or bed, go for light fabrics. It is not feasible to use heavy fabrics, such as wool. However, you may use these types of fabrics on minimal items like a throw.
The bed for this theme is a good way to bring in the garden or cottage theme in a big way. Choose a wrought iron framed bed because a heavy framed bed or one with a bigger headboard will take away from your motif. You may also put in a four-post bed.
Bringing in accessories will definitely tie in all your design elements together. To veer away from a very feminine bedroom, use large wall decor with a garden theme or silver metal wall art. Both will bring you texture while staying within the theme. You can convert the leaves metal wall hangings into a more practical accessory by putting on hooks to serve as a coat hanger.
There are multiple ways that you can change and update the teen girl’s personal space. This cottage or garden motif will give her a sense of being grown up without looking too adult.
