Stretch At Your Desk And Increase Porductivity
Many of us sit at a desk or in front of a computer for hours on end everyday. Are you aware that by taking short breaks and taking the time to stretch at your desk you can increase your productivity, clear your mind and decrease any pain in your head, neck and shoulders?
When working at our computer or desk related activities, we do not realize how long we sit before moving and how tired we can get. This does not make sense since we are “just sitting”! Our bodies and our brains need to move to be healthy.
When I worked in a Physical Therapy Center, one of the best and easiest ideas given to clients was to stretch. Many were not happy with this suggestion until they tried the simple desk stretches and started to use restive bands in their daily exercise routine.
What Is Stretching?
Stretching is simply the act of extending to full length the body or simply a part of it. This activity involves straightening or stretching the muscles and tendons in your body, especially in your neck, arms and legs.
Two of the many benefits of stretching that can increase productivity are:
1. Reduce Muscle Tension
When muscles are given regular exercises and stretching, it is less likely that they will contract or as we say “get tight”. Stretching definitely relieve you of any muscle pain and will decrease the chance of having serious problems. Stretching increases your flexibility and helps improve daily activities and tasks. It will also improve the range of motion in your joints and increases the blood flow to your muscles.
2. Enhance Energy
Being able to move more will also give you more energy. Have you ever noticed that when you are really tired and you get convinced by friends to go out, you usually get a sudden burst of energy and the tiredness disappears? Stretching will help you regain energy with simple movement. This, also helps enhance your awareness and refreshes your brain so that after a brief stretch at your desk, you are ready to get back to work.
You should incorporate stretching in your life. Stretching in the morning and before doing any exercise including walking and running are beneficial and should not be ignored..
