Why does the battery for a flashlight need to be a lot bigger than the battery in the radio?
This is a school problem I can’t figure out:
A radio that uses a small 9 V battery requires 0.05 A from the battery. A large flashlight that has a 6 V battery requires 1.0 A from its battery. Explain why the battery for the flashlight needs to be a lot bigger than the battery in the radio.
Any ideas?
Power (ie the amount of energy per second) = voltage X current
so for the radio P = 0.05 X 9 = 0.45 J/s
for the torch P = 6 X 1 = 6 J/s
so the power for the torch is much greater so it will need larger batteries that can store more energy.
