Flashlight Mount
LEDs first came on the scene way back in the 60′s but have not been used for illumination until more recently. The light that those early LEDs emitted was of very low intensity and of little use in illumination. But today, LEDs have come a long way and the light emitted by an LED can in no way be called as low intensity. This has given LEDs new applications including their use in flashlights.
Flashlights using LED technology were first introduced a decade ago, and they just keep marching on in their way to great popularity. Their main advantages include low power consumption, steady output and durability.
Their lower power consumption is their most attractive feature for most users. Led Flashlights have great running times, very significantly longer than typical flashlights. Some LED flashlights have a capacity to run for hundreds of hours on a single charge, which is a very difficult feat. These flashlights make better use of the electric power supplied by the batteries and are very efficient. While this is obviously good for the environment, this efficiency is especially attractive in flashlights because the power source must be carried.
More traditional flashlights will give out less and less light as the battery power wanes. However, many LED flashlights are unaffected by the level of power remaining in the batteries because of in built regulators. Thanks to them, these flashlights emit a constant level of light which does not decline over time.
Most normal flashlights are prone to breakage because they are somewhat delicate and a single drop can shatter or damage the bulb. However, LED flashlights are naturally very tough and even a high drop may not significantly damage these flashlights. This is because the solid-state nature of LED lighting is much stronger and longer lasting than traditional bulbs.
Finally, LED flashlights look very cool and have special sleek aluminum or similar bodies. Most of them are also compact and offer a comfortable grip that fits snugly in any hand.
LED flashlights have a wide range of forms and applications today from traditional uses to lights that mount onto guns. Some LED flashlights are rechargeable and will never require battery replacement. At the moment, flashlights using LEDs generally cost more, but this is bound to change with increasing number of companies manufacturing them and bringing them to market.
With all their positive aspects, flashlights that use LEDs are well worth any price premium over traditional flashlights and should be considered by anyone needing to purchase a flashlight.
