The care of a yellow tang and community fish?
I’ve had my tang for about three months now, I noticed when I got him he was all yellow, but about two weeks after having him I noticed a white strip along his mid section from the back of head to the starting of the tail, is this bad? I also notice when I turn off the headlamp he turns a little darker and the white stripe on both sides of his body remains there also, is this bad?
I noticed my tang, clown fish and angel fish do some weird movements, like flickering quick small movements. I have repeatedly checked the ph, alkaline, nitrate, nitrite, salinity levels and accounted for water conditioner when doing about 4-5 of at least 25% to 50% water changes. Please help….
Yellow tangs can get the white strip along their sides, some it is more pronounced than others. The color of fish will change when the lights are on compared to when the lights are off. Many times the fish’s colors are faded when the lights are off or when they are stressed out.
Your fish shouldn’t be doing any flickering movements, this could be a sign of stress from disease or from water conditions (tank size, water conditions, etc…).
You don’t mention the size of the tank or the type of angelfish, but if you have these in a tank of under 75 gallons that can be causing some of the stress.
Also make sure you are feeding the tang lots of green algae (like algae sheets or nori). You can enrich the sheets and you other foods with food supplements/vitamins. Many people use a garlic supplement to soak their fish food in as it tends to help build up a fishes immunity.
