How do you ‘camp’ in second life?

I’ve only been playing for three days. I’ve heard of the concept of sitting in a certain place to earn money, but how do you know whether a chair is a camping chair or not? Does it have anything to do with those little blobs that say ‘sit’? Do you receive your money after you get up? I’m kinda confused by the whole thing but I really need the money.

To camp, the chair will usually have a floating text over it saying how much in lindens you will be paid for the specified time. The ones that just say “sit” will be for a “pose ball” or animation in the chair directing your avatar to sit a certain way. There are also some sims that will allow you to “camp” and earn lindens while still walking around.

A little warning though, camping usually only pays a few lindens per 10 or 15 minutes of sitting. If you want to earn some decent starting money, i would recommend entering contests. If you open the search menu and then search under events, you will find tons of contests that pay hundreds of lindens for dressing up in a theme and hanging out at the club. These contests usually last about 2 hours, but you can save time by finding ones that are already under way and only staying for the last half. Some great places to find good free costumes to fill the requirements of these contests are freebie dungeon or freebie beach ( there are tons more places for freebies, but these are two of the biggest) Be aware, though, that since these are freebies, you may have to modify them a little to make yourself stand out to win (this is relatively simple and a great learning tool as well).
