Why is the Brown Hyena a dark brown and greyish color?
I am doing a project on Hyenas and I don’t have any idea why the Brown Hyena would be this color! Is it for hunting purposes or for camouflage? Please Help Me! THANKSS!
Any animal is the way that it is… color, teeth , size, whatever—-because it was evolutionarily advantageous. again, BECAUSE IT WAS EVOLUTIONARILY ADVANTAGEOUS !!!! It is all as simple as that.
If It were bright green, and its prey saw color, and green was obvious, any animal carrying that color wouldn’t live long enough (read starve) to get that gene into the next generation. Being green was not an advantage.
An animal, in this case, your brown hyena, is that color because over the eons of its evolution those animals with that color were successful enough to live long enough to get their genes into the next generation. In this case, the color hides them until the lions leave their food.
If a mutation occurs, and it is advantageous, that animal and its babies survives. If that mutation is a handicap, it dies, and it has no babies.
Pick any thing you wish about any animal at all. That animal is that way, or looks that way, or acts that way because it is evolutionarily advantageous.
